In the late 1960s and early 1970s Towson State's lacrosse field was located where Towsontown Garage is now located. Towson has been the home of an exceptional lacrosse team ever since their first win in 1959 against Brown University. In 1973 Towson State's lacrosse team ended with a record of 13-1, and by 1974 they had won their first NCAA Division II Championship.

2. Stephen's Annex

Stephen’s Annex is currently office space for Towson’s administration. In the 60’s and 70’s, it used to be a small cluster of “temporary buildings” because a new administration building was under construction. Temporary Building A housed the Women’s Center Board, which was an on-campus organization that sought to educate students and faculty members about the Women’s Liberation Movement. The Women’s Center Board also housed other committees concerning women such as the Women’s Studies Committee. In fact, Women’s Studies courses were originally offered in Temp. Building A. Stephen’s Annex, formerly known as Temporary Buildings, was where the Feminist Movement blossomed at Towson State College.

3. Enrollment Services

The location presented below is the Enrollment Services building, it is where the office of Dr. James Fisher, former President of Towson State College was located during the 1960’s and 1970’s and where the first ever, Occupy Towson took place headed by the Black Student Union (BSU). It is now a site for incoming, current, and former students to deal with student affairs such as transcripts, class registration, financial aid, and so on. The Enrollment Services is comprised with a series of offices that include the Bursars Office, English Language Center, Financial Aid, Graduation Office, Occupational Therapy and Occupational Science Department, Payment Center, Property Records, Records, Transcripts and Registration, Reenrollment, Registers Office, Residency, and Veteran’s Affairs.

4. Black Student Union Office

The Black Student Union office has a deep history. The office is located in the University Union right across from the Student Government Association. After aggressive negotiations with the President of Towson at the time, James Fischer, the BSU was able to acquire the office they have now.

Description

This tour combines four locations that represented "safe havens" for different groups at Towson University in the 60s and 70s. The Stephen's Annex, which is where the Women's Center Board was located, was a space for all women on campus. The Black Student Union Office was a space for all black students at Towson. The Lacrosse Field represents a safe haven for Towson's students in sports. Lastly, the Enrollment Services Building was where black women students at Towson had a sit in for their rights.
