Seitz Park was developed in late 1971 to provide needed neighborhood open space in an expanding part of South St. Joseph. Improvements at the park were partially funded by Community Development grants given to the Seitz Improvement Organization.

In 2018, Seitz was one of the seven parks chosen to receive an upgrade to its playground equipment. Assistant Parks Director Jeff Atkins stated concerning the park, “If you go down there and look at it today, there’s a real old jungle gym that’s down there and there’s a swing structure. Ando for it to be a neighborhood park there’s just nothing there but a big lot of grass.” That situation changed with the installation of a unique play structure. The appearance of the park was further improved in 2019 when the Sustainable Environment Advisory Committee sponsored the planting of several trees in the park.
