Located on the West side of Manhattan in New York City, Chelsea Pier was once used as a passenger ship terminal. In 1910, the pier was opened for ships to dock. Ships including the Lusitania and Mauretania. Alongside, the Titanic was scheduled to arrive at the pier but two days prior had sunk. Now Chelsea Pier is a sports and entertainment complex for the public.

In 1907, the Lusitania and Mauretania ships docked at Chelsea Pier. Three years later, Chelsea Pier officially opened as the city’s premier passenger ship terminal. By 1910, Chelsea Pier became a transfer location for thousands of immigrants. On April 16, 1912, the Titanic was scheduled to arrive. The “unskinable” ship was soon hit by an iceberg and sank on April 14,1912. In 1915, the pier served as an embarkation point for soldiers departing for battlefield of World Wars I and II.

Chelsea Pier suffered once the Depression had hit. By 1935, the voyager number dropped from one million to fewer than half. Although once the thirties came around, Chelsea Pier had redeveloped. Large vessels like the Normandie and Queen Mary dock at the pier. This brought the need of reconstruction to make the piers longer. By 1976, Chelsea Pier was set to be demolished because of usage failures.

After the pier was left to rust, in 1992, Chelsea Pier was honored the right to lease it. Lease Agreements including sports and entertainment facilities at the pier. By 1995, the pier had re-opened but as a Sports and Entertainment Complex. It featured a golf club, fitness, Sky Rink, MarineMax Maritime Center, Bowlmor, and event center. The historic Chelsea Pier was transformed into a public recreation and waterfront.

The site provided specific information about the history of Chelsea Piers. Information dates back from 1907 when the first of the new luxury liners docked at the Pier. It is a commercial site that provides history of the Pier, other activities, and available renting and event space.In general I would use this site in my research paper because it is provided by Chelsea Pier. Although, it is possible to find more in detailed sources about the history of Chelsea Pier.

This website provides a variety of information about Chelsea Pier as a company. It contains the total price in sales made, the number of employees, and when the company was incorporated. With a brief description of Chelsea Pier, the article includes a history with key dates, principal competitors, and principal subsidiaries.

The High Line is a non-profit organization and a public park on the West Side of Manhattan. The website provides a brief history of the area of Chelsea and their residents. The article contains different time periods that date back from the 1400s to present day. Chelsea Pier is located within the High Line where tourist and New York City residents can go site seeing. The High Line was once a railroad that was later created for gardens, programs, art, community park initiatives, and networking.

The site provides information about the history of Chelsea Pier that dates back to the 1880's. Warren and Whitmore were hired to design the piers for grand vessels to dock. This site is designated for locals looking to buy a house or apartments, so it provides some insight about the Chelsea Pier location.
