Portals of the Past

The pillars after the earthquake.

The pillars after the earthquake.

A devastating earthquake in 1906 ruined most everything in Nob Hill, however the pillars from A.N. Towne's mansion stood tall when it was all said and done. A.N. Towne spent most of his life working on for the railroad and towards the end of his career he was the Southern Pacific's second vice- president and general manager. Nob Hill was a prestigious neighborhood filled with mansions of the upper class before it's demise in 1906. These pillars are a symbol of hope and a memory of was once.
