Resource No. 23, rare local example of late 19th century Italianate Villa with Classic Revival overtones built by J.A. Maino (see Resources 137 & 138) in 1902 for businessman A.F. Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald was born in Ireland and came to S.L.O. in 1887; he served as President of the San Luis Brick Co. and the Chamber of Commerce (see Resource No. 59); he was also involved in founding Cal Poly.
- This house is one of the very few surviving examples of a two story Italianate house in San Luis Obispo which existed in the late 1800’s through 1900. Illustrative of the two story Italianate Villa, the house features curved brackets, a low pitched hipped roof, boxed cornice, shiplap siding and a balustrade balcony.
