Robert Wallace King House
This home has a history of having several notable owners. First, there was Robert Wallace King, who was born in Janesville in 1847. King was a popular local merchant in the area. Other owners also included Joseph A. Craig, manager of the Janesville Machine Company and advocate for General Motors Company, and Myron Green, owner and operator of a tobacco warehouse. All three men helped develop the community through their own business endeavors.
Backstory and Context
This home was constructed in the Queen Anne Style, which was popular in the 1880s to 1900s. It combines many different traits commonly seen in the Victorian and Romantic Eras. Most often in these homes there are large bay windows, irregular steeped roofs, and often times a turret or tower.
The last record of a current owner had the home converted into a hotel called Christine`s Victorian Rose.
