The Islamic Community Center of Anchorage Alaska is the the state's first mosque. As of early 2017, it is mostly completed. It serves a diverse community of 2,000-3,000 Muslims, many of who are refugees. Ethnicities represented include Alabanians, South Asians, Africans, Caucasians, Indonesians, Middle Easterners, and even native Alaskans. The center features prayer halls (one for men and one for women), a daycare, playground, library, and kitchen. Public programs include lectures and interfaith services. The Muslim community also gathers here for social events.
