Maitland Historical Society Museum
Founded in 1970, the Maitland Historical Society Museum is one of the five museums that make up the Art and History Museums - Maitland organization. Its exhibits, permanent and changing, explore the history of the town and the people and families who helped grow it to what it is today. The collections are comprised primarily of archival photographs, artifacts, and documents. The museum also houses a small research library that is available by appointment.
Backstory and Context
The Maitland Historical Society was founded in 1970 thanks to the efforts of Maitland Women's Club, which began collecting artifacts and compiling stories from Maitland residents. Their work culminated in the opening of the museum in 1977. In 2010, the society and the Maitland Arts Center joined forces to form the Art and History Museums - Maitland.
