John, Charles, and Sylvester Joy Homestead, Joy Prairie, 1838
1839-1938: In 1838 John, Charles, and Sylvester Joy, sons of James and Sarah Pickering Joy of Pittisfeild, N.H. traveled a thousand miles by wagon to make new home on Joy Prairie. The stone from their old home in New Hampshire was place on the site of their first cabin in honor of the founders of the betterment which bears their name by their Grateful descendants.
