The Western Historic Trails Center provides exhibits related to the history of the Lewis and Clark expedition of 1804. The center also offers exhibits related to the three 19th century pioneer trails that passed through Council Bluffs and took thousands of families and fortune seekers to the American West: the Oregon Trail, the Mormon Trail, and the California Trail. In addition to indoor exhibits, the center offers a half-mile mile walking and biking trail along the Missouri River.
