From 1962 to 1982, Fort Collins musician Bob Swerer was the owner of the Safari Club, a supper club and popular night spot for residents of the city. Live music and dancers played every night, and apparently, the club sold hard liquor “under the table” during Fort Collins’ dry years. The club, in addition to a few other bars including Ace Gillette’s and Ladd’s Covered Wagon served alcohol secretly until the repeal of prohibition in Fort Collins.
