This walking tour was created by Melissa Barnett, a graduate student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. The tour offers a chance to explore both the human-made and natural monuments on the battlefield trail. Google Maps does not yet include the trails that will take users to each monument, but this will still serve as a guide that will help visitors explore the park and understand how local organizations, patriotic women, and the federal government have preserved the memory of the militia soldiers who fought against friend and neighbor to protect their families. Follow along the battlefield trail to experience a memorial 200 years in the making. As you progress through the tour there are questions to challenge your ideas of a memorial. Feel free to discuss the questions with your group or with a Park Ranger.
