<p><span>The Fort Campbell Historical Foundation is a not-for-profit organization providing support and assistance to the Fort Campbell Don F. Pratt Museum while working to build the new Wings of Liberty Military Museum and Fort Campbell Historical Complex. The new museum and historical complex will commemorate and preserve the legacy of all Fort Campbell Soldiers, past and present. An 18-acre site has been designated for the facility and visitors will have direct access without obtaining an installation pass. The new location is at the corner of State Route 41A and Tinytown Rd. in Clarksville, TN.</span></p><p><span>The complex will include&nbsp;aircraft used by the 101st Airborne throughout it's history, interactive displays, a gift shop, a memorial park and a banquet area. There are also several foundation initiatives, such as the “Pathway of Legends,” which will consist of engraved commemorative bricks.</span></p>

The Wings of Liberty Museum will be a state of the art museum of the history of the 101st Airborne and Fort Campbell, KY.  The museum will replace the Don F. Pratt Museum, currently located on Fort Campbell.  The Don F. Pratt Museum is only able to display about 20% of the 101st Airborne Division's artifacts.  The Wings of Liberty Museum is being constructed in a phased approach.

The tour includes museums and historical sites around Hopkinsville, Kentucky and Clarksburg, Tennessee. Highlights of the tour include the Lone Oak House, monuments such as the Wings of Liberty, and the Don F. Pratt Museum. The center of the tour is the Trail of Tears marker commemorating the experience of Native Americans as they were forcibly marched west from their homes in the Southeast to present-day Oklahoma.

Hopkinsville  to Clarksburg and Fort Campbell Historical tour

Dating from 1835, Hopkinsville’s first House Museum (Lone Oak) represents a transition from the Federal style of architecture to the Greek Revival. Featured in one of New York City architect Minard Lafever’s house plan books, it is one of only three documented Temple Form Greek Revival houses ever built in Hopkinsville. One was torn down at the beginning of the 20th Century, and the other survivor is the Dillard House (also from a design by Lafever), which is now Planters Bank. Lone Oak was altered in 1880 with the addition of two upstairs front rooms.

<p>Following the discovery of gold on Cherokee lands in Georgia, white settlers violated treaties that recognized Native sovereignty leading to conflicts related to lands from Georgia to Tennessee and North Carolina. State governments took action to seize control of the Cherokee lands and the federal government responded by passing the Indian Removal Act in 1830.&nbsp;</p><p>The act enabled the U.S. Army to erect prison yards to hold the Native Americans in preparation for a forced march from Georgia to&nbsp;lands in the future state of Oklahoma. In 1835 Elias Boudinot and Major Ridge met with U.S. officials and signed the treaty contrary to the disapproval of the Cherokee Nation. The Native American land was sold in a lottery to white settlers for a total of $5.6 million. The government captured fifteen thousand Cherokees also Seminole, Choctaw, Chickasaw and Creek tribes.</p><p>The Native Indians were held in camps during the summer of 1838 they were forced to Relocate to modern-day Oklahoma acceded one-hundred thousand. On June 1938 when boats carrying the Native Americans overturned numerous Cherokees were killed. This led to the creation of thirteen groups who were forced to march 1,200 miles. The march was organized by the US Army and referred to by the Cherokees speakers who worked with the army as “Nunahi-Duna-Dlo-Hilu-I” or “Trail Where They Cried.” Native Americans were not afforded the luxury of taking extra blankets, food or clothing. They were permitted to have only five-thousand horses, 100 oxen, and six-hundred wagons. The estimation is four-thousand of the fifteen-thousand Cherokee died on the “Trail of Tears.” &nbsp;Many of the deaths were attributed to starvation, disease, exposure to the elements from lack of suitable clothing.&nbsp;</p>

<p>&nbsp;The relocation of the Native Americans created them to adapt to unfamiliar territory. The Great Plains were new to the Southeast Native Americans. The terrain where they once lived and hunted were completely opposite of the flat land they were forced to move to. The West coast Native Americans of Apaches, Comanches, Wichitas, and Kiowas were a threat now that their land had been compromised by the relocated of the Southeastern tribes. The outcome of the “Trail of Tears” is the complete removal of Native Americans from the Southeast United States, and the government profited five-million from selling the land to white settlers.</p>

This historical marker is located at a place where thousands of Native Americans camped during the long exodus from the Smoky Mountain region to reservations in what is not the state of Oklahoma The park is documented as being of a scarce few camps and trail sites. This park contains Cherokee memorial with a circle of flags among other markers and is the final resting place of many Native peoples, including Cherokee leaders Fly Smith and Whitepath. Visitors to the historical park can also see a historic log cabin that includes exhibits related to the Trail of Tears. Evey year the first weekend after Labor day the commission sponsors a Pow Wow. This promotes Native Americans celebrating their heritage.

</p><p><span>Born on June 3, 1808, Jefferson Davis was the youngest child
of Samuel E. and Jane Cook Davis.&nbsp; Shortly
after his family moved from their home in Todd County, Kentucky to Louisiana in
1810 and then to Mississippi only a couple of years later. When Davis got older
he pursued a military career and graduated from West Point. Growing up in
Mississippi shaped Davis’s political ideas and in the 1840s he pursued a second
career as a politician. Davis entered politics as a strong supporter of states’
rights and the unlimited spread of slavery to the western territories.&nbsp; The majority of the offices he held were
appointments although he was occasionally elected for others. In 1845 he was
elected to the U.S. Congress but resigned in 1846 to lead the First Regiment of
the Mississippi Riflemen in the Mexican-American War. In the war he led the regiment
to victory in the Battle of Monterrey and repelled a Mexican infantry charge in
the Battle of Buena Vista.&nbsp; Regarded as a
war hero to many Americans, Davis was appointed to the Senate after the war. As
a senator he opposed the Compromise of 1850, especially the admittance of California
as a free state.&nbsp; In 1851 he left the
Senate to run an unsuccessful campaign for the governor’s seat in Mississippi. In
1853 Davis was appointed Secretary of War under President Franklin Pierce and
came back to the Senate in 1857. &nbsp;</span></p><p>

</p><p><span>Davis initially opposed secession, but he was a strong advocate
for states’ rights and slavery. Therefore, when Mississippi left the Union in
1861, Davis chose to support his state.&nbsp;
He left the Senate and in February of 1861 he was appointed as the first
(and the only) president of the Confederate States of America. As president Davis
was confronted with many military, economic, and social problems. Several of
Davis’s contemporaries felt that Davis was not protecting states’ rights and that
he was too close to his former northern allies. Davis was also a poor judge of
character, supporting people incapable of fulfilling their duties and ignoring
the skills and value of the people he did not like. This was especially true with
his generals, assisting in the Confederacy’s military losses.&nbsp; Due to these factors, Southerners came to
hate Jefferson Davis.</span></p><p>

</p><p><span>&nbsp;By 1865, and
especially when General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant at
Appomattox, Virginia in April of 1865, it was obvious that the Confederacy was
going to lose the war.&nbsp; Also in April,
the Union army made it to the city of Richmond and Davis retreated to the Deep
South where he was captured in Georgia the following month. After his capture,
Davis was charged with treason and served two years in prison at Fort Monroe in
Virginia.&nbsp; During these two years Davis’s
physical and emotional health declined drastically and never fully recuperated
after he was freed in May of 1867.&nbsp; After
this, he and his family travelled to Europe for two years and came back to the
U.S. only to have trouble in his attempt to start a new life for himself.&nbsp; He was employed by an insurance company only
to have the company file bankruptcy. In an attempt to resuscitate his reputation,
he also wrote a two-volume book in 1881 on the history of the Confederacy
titled <i>The Rise and Fall of the
Confederate Government</i>; today the book is considered a very important
contribution to the history of the Confederacy. This book also had the effect
Davis hoped for.&nbsp; In 1881 the war was
still fresh in people’s memories and many southerners still held onto their
pride and their beliefs.&nbsp; In the book
Davis related the South’s rebellion to the American Revolution and praised the
ideas at the heart of the Confederacy, strengthening the pride of his fellow
southerners. The South came to see Davis as an image of its beliefs. Davis
became a hero as southerners forgot their hate for him and attempted to forget
the war itself but not why they fought it.</span></p><p>

</p><p><span>Davis lived at the Beauvoir estate in Mississippi during his
final years.&nbsp; In 1889 Davis died of acute
bronchitis in New Orleans on December 6 approximately at 1:00am without ever
taking the oath of allegiance required of Confederate politicians and veterans if
they wished to become U.S. citizens again. His funeral brought several people
to New Orleans to pay their respects to the late politician. Despite his death,
in 1978 U.S. Congress made Davis a citizen again. Today many monuments and
memorials to Davis stand in various states throughout the country.</span></p><p>

This memorial park includes the birthplace of Jefferson Davis, the only president of the Confederate States of America from 1861-1865.  Located in Kentucky, a historical marker has been placed on the spot of the Davis family’s home; this site is easy to find thanks to the nearby Jefferson State Park, which also has a monument dedicated to the late politician.  A politician, soldier, and a dedicated supporter of the South until his death, Davis went from being hated by his southern contemporaries to becoming an image and hero of the Lost Cause. Today, some people still see Davis as this hero while others see him as a tyrant.

<p>Simon Bolivar Buckne Sr., a Confederate general, first proposed the idea of a monument for Davis during a reunion of the Orphan Brigade of the Confederate Army in 1907. Construction began in 1917 but stopped in 1918 at a height of 175 feet (53 m) due to building material rationing during World War I. Construction resumed in January 1922 and was finished in 1924 at a cost of $200,000. The base was constructed of limestone quarried from the site. The concrete walls are 8.5 feet (2.6 m) thick at the base and taper to 2.5 feet (0.76 m) thick at the top. The monument was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 as structure #73000849. The obelisk was closed to the public from 1999 until May 2004 for renovations and construction of a new visitor center. At the top of the monument is an observation room with a window in each of the four walls. Originally, this room could only be reached by climbing stairs which went around the interior of the monument; an elevator, installed in 1929, now takes visitors to and from the observation room.</p><p>The monument is the tallest unreinforced concrete structure in the world. No steel was used to reinforce the concrete. As one pour was completed, large chunks of limestone were left projecting up to connect it to the next pour above. It is also the tallest concrete obelisk in the world; all of the taller obelisks are constructed with blocks of stone. It is the third tallest obelisk in the world (behind the San Jacinto Monument and the Washington Monument). (Because its cross section is octagonal and does not have a pyramidal top, the San Jacinto Monument could be considered a columnn instead of an obelisk.)</p><p>It is the fifth tallest monument in the United States, behind the Gateway Arch at 630 feet (190 m), the San Jacinto Monument at 567 feet (173 m), the Washington Monument at 555 feet (169 m), and the Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial at 352 feet (107 m). The Crazy Horse Memorial, not yet completed, has a planned height of 563 feet (172 m). Elsewhere in the world, the Great Pyramid of Giza, Khafre's Pyramid, Spring Temple Buddha, and Ushiku Daibutsu are taller monuments.1</p>

Jefferson Davis State Historic Site is a memorial to the famous Kentuckian born on this site on June 3, 1808. A 351-foot obelisk constructed on a foundation of solid Kentucky Limestone, marks the site, and an elevator to the top gives visitors a bird's eye view of the countryside. Although Davis is most well-known for his service as President of the Confederacy during the Civil War, he was actually a reluctant secessionist.   Davis distinguished himself as a military and political leader not only during the Civil War, but also as a West Point graduate, Mexican War hero, Mississippi congressman and senator, and Secretary of War during the Franklin Pierce administration.

<div>1861-1880<br><br>After the American Civil War began in 1861, attendance of the school dropped sharply. In order to regain lost attendance numbers, the school admitted young men. The school held its prominence with many of its male graduates attending Yale, Harvard and Columbia. In the later portion of the 19th century, the perception of Kentucky as a primitive, rough and wild region of the nation became common amongst the national population. As a result, the Green River Academy became defunct and the Academy building was released to the Academy Society member holding the most stock in the organization and the remaining stock was dissolved.</div><div><br></div><div>1880-1980<br></div><div><br></div><div>After serving as a public school during the late 1880′s, the Academy was converted into a private residence. S. Walton Forgy purchased the building and made cosmetic updates to the interior and exterior, adding a colossal (two-story height), columnned porch to the facade. Forgy both purchased and renovated the building as a wedding gift to his wife Elizabeth. In the mid 1900′s, the house was sold to the Mansfield family who continued to use the building as a home, converting many of the rooms into apartments to bring in additional income during World War II.</div><div><br></div><div>1980-Present<br></div><div><br></div><div>In the 1980′s, the house was sold at auction after the death of Mrs. Mallie Mansfield and the building was purchased at auction. The building was immediately converted into rarely maintained storage space with an efficiency apartment in the former Kitchen ell. The building fell into ruin after two decades of prolonged deterioration.</div><div><br></div><div>In 2008, a local donor purchased the building with the intention to create a non-profit organization and restore the building, saving the Academy from destruction. A purchase agreement was arranged and one year later, the building ownership was transferred with a 25% donation included in the transfer agreement to the Green River Academy Preservation Society, a 501c3 not-for-profit organization.</div><div><br></div><div>The Academy building and grounds are currently under the control of the Green River Academy Preservation Society. The group invites interested parties to join the organization to share in the restoration effort. Through adaptive-use, the building will be restored and will benefit the community by providing educational opportunities for those seeking new careers in technology based occupations. When completed, the Green River Academy will also provide hospitality assistance to the local business community in addition to operating as a social facility for the &nbsp;Green River Academy Preservation Society.&nbsp;<sub>1</sub><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://greenriveracademy.com/?page_id=38">http://greenriveracademy.com/?page_id=38</a></div>

The Green River Female Academy is one of the best indications of early 19th century attitudes towards equal opportunities for women in the United States. The Academy is also prime example of the transition between Federal and early Greek Revival architecture. The building, constructed in 1835, was created for the Green River Female Academy by contributions and subscriptions of southern planters which, eventually organized to become the founding members of the Green River Academy Society. Soon, the popularity of the school grew amongst families of the south and the school expanded to a campus with multiple auxiliary buildings. Kentucky at the time, along with North Carolina, were considered to have the best educational institutions in the nation.

The building was designed by Federal Treasury Supervising Architect&nbsp;William Martin Aiken.&nbsp;Some of the galleries are located in a historic post office and customs house built in 1898. This building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. Other exhibits are dedicated to learning for children and parents, such as the Explorer's Gallery and Bubble Cave.&nbsp;

Customs House Museum and Cultural Center is Tennessee's second largest general-interest museum. The signature exhibit, "Becoming Clarksville: Honoring Legacies of Leadership," provides a chronological tour of social, political, and economic history. Exhibits are not only dedicated to the history of the region, but also art, science, and culture. The Customs House Museum is well-known for holding one of the largest model railroad layouts in the region, as well as its outdoor displays of historic locomotives and railroad cars.

<p>Wilma
Rudolph was born premature, weighing only four and a half pounds. She was&nbsp;also the&nbsp;twentieth&nbsp;child in a family of twenty-two children. At age four,&nbsp;young Wilma&nbsp;was
diagnosed with polio and was required to&nbsp;wear braces on her&nbsp;legs&nbsp;for the next five years.
Rudolph&nbsp;set her mind upon&nbsp;overcoming her&nbsp;disability by&nbsp;running, jumping, and
playing like other children her age despite the pain and fatigue. By age 12,&nbsp;Rudolph was able to&nbsp;play competitive sports such as basketball. </p><p>Rudolph's big break came when she was
spotted by Tennessee State’s track and field coach and asked to join his summer
program on the campus of this historically Black university. When Wilma Rudolph was only seventeen years old, she
earned a berth on the U.S Olympic track team and came home with a bronze medal
in the 1956 Melbourne Games. She&nbsp;also won races&nbsp;in the Pan American games as well
as the AAU indoor meet.&nbsp;By 1960, she was the fastest woman in the world. </p><p>
Rudolph won three gold medals in the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome.&nbsp;Two years later,
Wilma Rudolph retired from track at the age of twenty-two and&nbsp;became
a teacher and community leader in several cities.&nbsp;On November 12, 1994,&nbsp;Rudolph died of cancer in her home in Nashville.</p>

Wilma Rudolph was the first woman to win three gold medals in one Olympic games. During the 1960 summer Olympics in Rome, Rudolph won gold in the 100 meter, 200 meter, and 100x400 meter relay. As a child, Rudolph suffered from several physical ailments such as polio. In response, she recalled, she pushed herself more than other children to overcome her limitations. Rudolph also challenged segregation in Clarksville and spoke out against discrimination faced by women and people of color.

<span>The American Civil War is a portion of the
history of the United States that will never die down. To this day, many people
are still enthralled by a certain of charm that it holds. Reenactors devote
their lives to getting the details just right for this modern age, historians
devote their entire careers to studying one tiny specific aspect of such a large
and broad war, and civil war battlefields are maintained and used as centers
for education. Clarksville’s Fort Defiance falls under that last category.
Originally called Fort Sevier, then renamed Fort Bruce, and later on Fort Defiance,
this American Civil War memory sits above the Cumberland River, watching the it flow today just as it watched for troops on the move in the mid-1860’s. There’s
a story behind Fort Defiance that is familiar to what is uttered in every classroom
and lesson when the Civil War is brought up; and that is the idea that it wasn’t
uncommon to find family members pitted against each other on opposite sides. For
this particular Civil War memory, it is a tale of brothers-in-law Sanders D.
Bruce and John Hunt Morgan.&nbsp;<br><br></span><span>Originally called Fort Sevier, there is this narrative
that the fort exchanged hands many times throughout the Civil War. The first side to lay claim
to the hilltop the fort rests upon was the Confederacy, who felt that it could
prove indispensable for protecting against Union gunboats.1 It was later found
abandoned by Union gunboats, investigated, and then claimed by Union forces
under Colonel Rodney Mason. Col. Mason held Fort Sevier until August 1862, when
it was recaptured by Confederate forces. According to Mason, he surrendered
because he understood that he was severely outnumbered, outgunned, and
headquarters in Nashville refused to take action as he had informed them of the
fort’s shortcomings in mid-June.2 After Mason lost control of the fort to
Confederate forces, Colonel Bruce was sent from Bowling Green to recapture it and maintain control of the Clarksville area. It's difficult to pinpoint how Bruce was able to immediately take command of the fort, but due to thorough Union control in surrounding areas, it's implied that Clarksville was back under Union control at that time or that there was little resistance.<br></span><br>Sanders D.
Bruce was a Union Colonel originally from Lexington, Kentucky. Colonel Bruce
was in charge of the 20th Regiment Kentucky Volunteer Infantry. It seems
that the Union headquarters located in Nashville strongly supported the idea of
sending Bruce to Clarksville to hold that position in December of 1862. Communication
between commanders shows that while other commanding officers could’ve occupied
Clarksville at this same time, such as General Gordon Granger for example, but only for
short periods of time each. Bruce had been stationed in Bowling Green when the
decision was being made. It’s unclear if Bruce was chosen for his proximity to
Clarksville that December, the amount of men he had under his command, or if
for some strategy or experience-based reasoning. One thing that is clear is
that at this time, John Hunt Morgan was becoming more and more active along the
Cumberland River and it was believed that Bruce was needed to resolve that
problem. While stationed at the Fort, Bruce's main adversary was John Hunt Morgan and the cavalrymen he led on raids throughout the region.3<p></p><p>John Hunt
Morgan, the “Thunderbolt of the Confederacy”&nbsp;was a Brigadier General and
renowned cavalryman for the Confederate Army. Originally from Alabama, Morgan
found himself in Lexington, Kentucky for schooling and took up manufacturing hemp.
When war broke out, he joined up with the Confederacy and quickly made a name
for himself.4 Along the Cumberland River, Morgan caused concern and wreaked havoc
with his raids and attacks on railroads and telegraph wires. Morgan led raids
up and down the Cumberland and used his skills to disrupt supply lines and
movements quickly, in guerrilla fashion. When Union commanders knew that Morgan
was in the area, they scrambled to play a logistical game out of what areas needed
immediate attention and which regiments and brigades were in well enough
condition to handle a possible raid.5</p><p><small></small>The focus of the story about Fort Bruce is typically that it changed hands multiple times throughout the war. That constant contention for a hilltop on the border between Confederacy and Union is an interesting aspect of the war without any doubt. There's a heart and soul to the Civil War that keeps it ever present in the hearts of Americans, and each location associated with the Civil War is unique and plays right into the spirit of the war.&nbsp;Fort Defiance is no different. It's a difficult story to flesh out, Clarksville doesn't appear to be as attention grabbing of a&nbsp;battlefield like Gettysburg or Antietam; but the fact that brothers-in-law stood their ground and fought for control of the area is a tale that truly expresses why people are still interested in the Civil War to this day. Today, Fort Defiance stands as a small memorial park and is home to an interpretive center for visitors to look around in and dive into the history of the area.&nbsp;</p><p></p>

Located on the Cumberland River in Clarksville, TN, sits Fort Defiance, also known to many as Fort Bruce and to some Fort Sevier. Currently a memorial site to the events that took place there during the American Civil War, this fort played a significant role in the shifting hold of the Cumberland River between Union and Confederate forces. In the play that was the American Civil War, Clarksville and Fort Bruce were the set and stage, with the leads being John Hunt Morgan as the main Confederate and Sanders D. Bruce as the main Unionist. The story isn’t as famous as those of Antietam or Gettysburg, but the skirmishes that occurred on the border between Union and Confederate territory were vital nevertheless.

Although the amount of information is limited, I can share with you what I know from personal experience, and from the archives and research of others. On a small piece of land in the woods of Fort Campbell Ky there is something that is straight out of a movie. The Battle was thick that day in northern Africa and some 3000 Nazis were captured.&nbsp;Although there were many different POW camps that the allied forces used&nbsp;during World War&nbsp;2 some of the German Soldiers would inevitably come to&nbsp;Kentucky. Out of the many POWs that called Ft Campbell KY their home till the end of the war only 5 German Soldiers would remain to this day.<br><br>Eugen Ulrich, Kurt Franke, Herbert Linder, Josef Reidinger and Guenter Cassens died while in American custody. Four of the men died from natural causes and one of the men (Josef Reidinger)&nbsp;was shot at the local train station while trying to escape. "Although it was almost a common practice for the prisoners to attempt an escape most did it for the chance to find a woman rather than to return to Europe" (John OBrien, installation historian at the Don F. Pratt Museum).<br><br>Ultimately most all the POWs on Ft Campbell would return home and those five men that are still there in the woods of Ft Campbell are honored on the first of November; when the sounds of the German National Anthem can be heard playing through the pines along with the sounds of Ich Hatt Einen Kameraden (I Once Had a Comrade) to Honor not only the memory of the men laying there but also as tribute to their courage to fight for what they felt was right and true&nbsp;on&nbsp;their country.<br>

<div><p>Fort Campbell site selection was on July 16, 1941, and construction began on&nbsp;February&nbsp;4, 1942. After about a year construction was complete and the new Army Post was&nbsp;labeled&nbsp;as Camp Campbell.&nbsp;Originally&nbsp;the camp was designed to&nbsp;house&nbsp;one armored division, 2,422 officers,&nbsp;42,198 enlisted men, and 23,000&nbsp;various&nbsp;support troops. Fort Campbell is located between Hopkinsville, Kentucky and Clarksville,&nbsp;Tennessee, meaning the post spans across two states. The&nbsp;strategic&nbsp;placement of the post means it can&nbsp;deploy&nbsp;mission-ready&nbsp;assets&nbsp;by air, rail, ground, and inland waterways at a&nbsp;moment's&nbsp;notice.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p></div><div><p>In the&nbsp;Summer of 1942, the post initially&nbsp;inhabitants&nbsp;reported to Camp Campbell&nbsp;consisting of&nbsp;one officer and 19 enlisted men,&nbsp;from&nbsp;Fort Knox, Kentucky.&nbsp;&nbsp;From the posts opening up until the end of WWII, Camp Campbell was the training ground for the 12th, 14th, and 20th&nbsp;Armored Division, as well as, the&nbsp;Headquarters&nbsp;for the IV Armored Corps and the 26th&nbsp;Infantry Division. In April of 1950, the training camp was converted&nbsp;to&nbsp;a permanent&nbsp;installation and was renamed, Fort Campbell.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p></div><div><p>Fort Campbell is now home to the only Air&nbsp;Assault&nbsp;Division in the world, the 101st&nbsp;Airborne Division (Air Assault). Fort Campbell is also home to two Special Operations Command Units, the 5th&nbsp;Special Forces Group (Airborne) and the 160th&nbsp;Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne). The post also provides support for training and mobilization for many Army&nbsp;National&nbsp;Guard and Army Reserve units in the region.&nbsp;</p><p>The Don F. Pratt Museum was established in 1956 as a division museum&nbsp;for the 101st Airborne Division, whose mission was to preserve the history of the "Screaming Eagles" from the early 1940s to Present Day. The Museum was named after&nbsp;Brig. Gen. Don F. Pratt, who was a member of the 101st. The Museum exhibits 101st Airborne memorabilia, an exhibit&nbsp;for the&nbsp;<span>CG-4A cargo glider, which carried glider-borne Soldiers into combat during World War II, two 17th century bronze eagles, An illuminated Dutch Manuscript recognizing the Divisions role in Liberating Holland in WW2, captured enemy weapons and equipment from Vietnam,&nbsp; a recruiter’s jeep from the 1970s, and items which once belonged to Adolph Hitler and other high ranking Nazi officials.</span></p></div>

Fort Campbell began construction on February 4, 1942. After about a year construction was complete and the new Army Post was labeled as Camp Campbell. The camp housed one armored division, 2,422 officers, 42,198 enlisted men, and 23,000 various support troops. Fort Campbell is located between Hopkinsville, Kentucky and Clarksville, Tennessee. Fort Campbell is also home to two Special Forces Units and the world famous 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). Fort Campbell is also home to the Don F. Pratt Museum of the 101st Airborne Division
