1925, Home of the partner of the insurance firm of Bishop and Claypoole as well as secretary-treasurer of EK Bishop and Co, and VP of the Chamber of Commerce. The land was given to Mrs. Frances Claypoole by her grandfather, Superior Court Judge Henry Ravenscroft Bryan who lived in a mid-eighteenth-century home which was demolished in the mid 1900s. Mrs. Claypoole was a local genealogist and educator, the first secretary of the New Bern Historical Commission, and has papers housed in the University of North Carolina. The Claypoole's son-in-law was Vermont Royster, renown publisher of the Wall Street Journal.
