In 1983, the Historic Greenville Foundation was formed to promote the area and create a museum to display and honor the area’s history.  In 1999, the historical foundation purchased the property that the museum calls home today and built the museum in 2002.  The museum officially opened to the public in 2007 in downtown Greenville.  The museum entered into a partnership with Furman University in 2012 and now offers tours and hosts Neighborhood Nights.
