Bougemont was constructed circa 1916 by Harrison Brooks Smith. Mr. Smith was an attorney with Price, Smith, and Spilman law firm and also president of Kanawha Banking and Trust. After Smith passed away in 1942, the house changed hands and was bought in 1959 by Horace Hamilton Smallridge, a businessman in Charleston. In 1984, Bougemont was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Bougemont is a private residence and not open to public viewing.
